We will be releasing two downloadable starter decks in the next few weeks.

But there's seven factions all together, and we'd be interested to know which ones people would like first. At the moment we're veering towards the Gangs and Police.

We had a bit of trouble with this forum, and unfortunately, during the course of sorting it out, some user accounts were lost. We can't apologise enough for this, but rest assured the forum is now working absolutely fine, and hopefully nothing like this will ever happen again.

Thanks for your patience.

Ever wondered what the Dragstarr logo is? Well, we've often wondered too, but the official line is that it's a robot. If you need more proof, here's some secret footage of it shaking its funky stuff.

You know how it is: you discover a great game, and you want the whole world to know about it, right? Well here's your chance! Any miniature, card, video or roleplaying game (or any other type for that matter) that you like - we want to know about it.

Here's something I discovered a few weeks ago, and I think is incredible: Maschinen Krieger. They're Japanese sci-fi models which look insane. Even the packaging is amazing.

And here's a few other things we've been playing around with recently: Resident Evil 4, Shadowrun, WH40K, Fallout 3, LOTR TCG.......

admin on "WTF is Zombie?"

After we'd started work on Project Utopia we were bitten by the development bug, and all of a sudden we had games coming out of our ears. The one we liked the most was Zombie, which was designed to be really fun.

What's fun about being a zombie? Not much, I guess. But eating your friends is kind of cool, and this is what Zombie is all about.

Each player has an avatar which represents themselves as a human, and as a zombie. Players start off as humans, and they try and kill each other. When a human is killed it comes back as a zombie. The last human player wins.

As you can imagine, this involves a lot of cunning, and back-stabbing. And more than anything else, it involves a lot of blood.

We hope to release Zombie really soon. We're playing with the idea of allowing people to create their own avatars online, with a customised image and stats. But standard avatars will also be released in the first set.

So yeah, basically its Dawn of the Dead for your tabletop, but you're the one getting stabbed and gnawed. Sounds good to me!

Version 1.1 has just been released. If you haven't done so already, we recommend you take a quick look and then we'll get down to business.

Right, so where did this bundle of gaming goodness come from? It started about 6 months ago when a fellow gamer and myself were driving back home, and were busy moaning about the lack of quality ccgs. You know the sort of conversation "Why isn't X more like Y?" or "This game is good, but if only they'd done it slightly differently." Then we started talking through a game idea we'd had a while ago, and all of a sudden the pieces started to fall in to place. By the end of the journey we'd hammered out the basis of a new card game, and as you can imagine, we were really excited.
But when we first played it, it was the worst game we'd ever played. It REALLY sucked. So we changed it. And played it some more. Rinse, repeat, and a few months down the line we had something that we loved to play.

So how did it go from being the worst game ever, to something that we loved? It was by making it simpler. MUCH simpler. We still joke about how difficult some of the missions were: "Do X, Y and Z five times over, whilst doing a double back flip, and pouring yourself a cup of tea..." You get the idea.

We simplified it by looking at what we thought was essential for a CCG, namely having a resource curve, lots of strategy, alternative win conditions, good combat etc. and building a game around it.

Also, we wanted each faction to have a distinct way of playing. This presents some problems when you want weedy Hackers to face up to burly Agents or Bounty Hunters. This is why missions are so important. It allows players to score strategy points without having to smack down the opponent. But we were also careful to ensure that a player cannot easily score strategy points without playing characters, which means that combat decks will always have something to do. If flat out control is your game, then Project Utopia is not for you!

All of the cards have been written for the first set, which should provide a solid foundation for the game. They will be released on a regular basis, so keep an eye on the main site. Similarly, we will be posting stories about the different factions. In particular, we're really excited about the Creed.

We hope you enjoy it!

admin on "Artwork submissions"

Dragstarr games' art bots are currently working in overdrive mode to get Project Utopia released as soon as possible. At the moment we have 50 cards done, but the first set consists of 180! If anyone would like to submit artwork, then this'd be great. You'll receive a link to your site, and acknowledgement on the card itself, and of course, our undying gratitude.

We recently released a full card list which contains card names and flavour text. We recommend you look at this and see whether any take your fancy.

The art style on Project Utopia is quite loose, though there are clear Soviet and Cyberpunk inspirations. I'd say it was quite dark, and the characters are certainly more of a US/UK comic book style than a Manga style. As for the weapons, a weapon is a weapon, right? As long as it looks cool, that's all that matters.

Also, if you have any comments on the existing art work then we'd be happy to hear from you.

Right, I think that's it.

Thanks, Dan
